Kayleigh Smerud P.1 Human Trafficking in Europe

Summary: The article I chose to read was about human trafficking in Europe. Human trafficking is the illegal movement of people, typically for the purposes of forced labor or commercial sexual exploitation. There was seventy one bodies found in an abandoned truck in Austria. Sixty out of the seventy bodies were men. Eight woman died and three children died at very young age. This is happening because women from Hungary are forced into prostitution in the Netherlands, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Denmark, Germany, Austria, Italy, Spain, Ireland, Greece, and the United States. Women from eastern Hungary are subjected to forced prostitution in Budapest and areas in Hungary along the Austrian border.

Analysis:  I chose to read this article because human trafficking happens almost everyday and we don't notice it. "About 3,000 trucks pass through that area of the highway daily, and checking each one of them is almost impossible." -authorities said. Most human smugglers also use smaller cars, making the use of trucks unusual. Trafficking in persons is a serious crime and a grave violation of human rights. Every year, thousands of men, women and children fall into the hands of traffickers, in their own countries and abroad. Its good to be able to learn about these things understand what's going on and help this from happening.

  3. It is truly terrible what these people are going through, and most of them don't even get caught. -Julianne Swaykus

  4. It's so sad to hear about so many people that must go through this in order to survive. Like you said it is such a violation, and a crude disrespect for these poor human beings.
