Obama to rename tallest U.S. peak in historic Alaska visit by M'Lynn Musgrove

Obama will travel to Alaska to address the climate change along with other natural disasters that have occurred with it. While he is there, he wants to rename our countries tallest mountain from Mt. McKinley to Denali. This will pay homage to the native population who have been fighting for the change for decades. His mission is to draw attention to the climate change. Not only could this be an issue to our military, but it could effect our economy as we rely on Alaska for many of our resources.

Although I respect Obama for helping the native people, I don't understand what the trip will exactly do to help. In my opinion, he is just trying to get in good with Alaska's people in his last few months as president.

  1. I do not agree with your analysis. This trip is about awareness. Through awareness comes change, and Obama is just trying to add a little more tinder to the small fire that are climate change activists.

  2. I agree with Ari, I think Obama's visit is helping, even if it doesn't seem like it's having a lot of impact. Even just him visiting for the sake of bringing awareness about the environment is a big step- anything to help draw attention to the movement from the general public.

    1. With over 20% of Americans denying climate change and most of the rest crossing their fingers and hoping it goes away, I think Obama's visit to raise awareness for both causes was definitely worth it.
