Lincoln Anthony (8th period)- Critics Scrutinize Texas' Unusual High School Dropout Rates

Texas public school's unusual dropout and graduation rates have attracted the attention of a multitude of critics of public school education. They suspect that public school officials have messed with the numbers in order to make themselves look good. School districts say that about a quarter of students graduated without including a few key numbers. Lo and behold, the superintendent of El Paso ISD did plead guilty of corruption and falsifying numbers.

Analysis:
The idea that our superintendent and various other public school overlords would falsify graduation and dropout rates in order to receive a better salary is mind-boggling. It is a testament to the greed and corruption embedded into our society. If the board was half as interested in giving the children of society a good education that is interesting and engaging as they were lying in order to make a couple extra bucks, they probably wouldn't have to falsify numbers in the first place.

Wow. It's weird to think that school officials, who have the power to shape the minds of students would do this. Changing the way the school looks to get a higher salary is jaw-dropping.

  2. I'm more surprised that this was actually able to happen than I am that a superintendent would do it for money reasons. How easy can it be to change statistical numbers? Surely the system would be computerized, and heavily secure at that. It concerns me that someone was actually able to break into the system for that.
