Paige McManaman- Hurricane Florence hit 10 days ago and is still causing evactuations

Hurricane Florence started 10 days ago and is still cause multiple families and people to evactue roads and houses. These people are now under evacuation watches and still hundreds as being rescued from the flooding waters. The death toll from the storm is 43 and tentative damage estimates to around $50 billion which place the hurricane in the top 10 most costly hurricanes in the United States.

Hurricane Florence will leave a mark on the United States for such a long time, maybe even forever. Just likeHurricane Florence, Hurricane Katrina also made a huge impact on our country. Katrina is still remembered today and will always be thought about forever just like Hurricane Florence will. A good thing about this incident is that multiple states are coming to aid and helping with the storm and evacuation to make everything more smooth for all of the people impacted and effected by the hurricane. There has been at least 350 evacuations that happened because of the hurricane and it is still not over. This hurricane was a very downhill moment in current day United States because of the expenses for helping,  safety, and the cost of everyone’s lives that are in danger or were in danger. I feel that everyone should try to donate or help out with societies that contribute to everyone that got effected by the hurricane.

  1. Where do the first responders take the people/families once they have evacuated them from the unsafe areas? -Mia Murphy

  2. I agree that Florence will be remembered forever. The fact that rescue crews are still out and finding more and more people who need help just shows the mass destruction the hurricane inflicted on the east. I hope that people can recover from this disaster and repare what they lost. - Joziah German

  3. As each passing hurricane goes by annually it truly is tragic. My heart is out to anyone who lost their life or lost a family member/friend. It's very admirable that many of these volunteers are working their hardest to rescue people I respect.

  4. Adding on to Mia's comment, do victims of Florence receive any special welfare? You mentioned that the families affected are being helped, but how?

  5. I hope and pray that everyone going through Florence are getting to safety and that all the destruction can be handled quickly. Even though we are not there to help we can help by donating which I like that you brought up.

  6. its terrifying seeing the effects Florence has on so many people. I agree that this will have a strong impact on the country, as we can already see. I will be truly disappointed if the victims aren't getting some form of welfare

  7. I love that you brought up the idea of donating to the victims of Hurricane Florence. Many people brush off this topic since they haven't encountered this catastrophe which leads them to believe that it doesn't affect them in any way. - Ariana Oliver
