Cathy Huynh- Bill Cosby to learn his fate: 30 years, probation, or middle ground

Summary: 81-year-old comedian Bill Cosby faces a sentencing hearing today who paved the trail for other black entertainers and donated millions to black causes, but preyed on at least 1 young woman and perhaps many more. He is being convicted for drugging and sexually assaulting former Temple University employee Andrea Constand in 2004. Whatever the sentence, he is likely to be deemed a sexually violent predator and will have to undergo monthly counseling the rest of his life, in prison or out. Constand isn't the only one who accused him of sexual assault, more than 60 other women have accused him of sexual misconduct, though none of them have led to criminal charges. Cosby became the 1st black actor to star in a prime-time TV show, "I Spy," in 1965. He remained a Hollywood A-lister for most of the next half-century hitting his peak the top-rated "Cosby Show" in the 1980s.

Analysis: This article was written just before Cosby's sentencing hearing. Since the incident happened in 2004 and reported in 2005, there were many years of investigation and this article includes up-to-date info on the case. I heard about this before, I don't know where but I've certainly heard of this before. I can relate this to US history, how Bill Cosby is the 1st celebrity to go on trial in the #MeToo era and is introducing a new idea of how celebrities are now more vulnerable than ever can relate to Zenger's trial, where it introduced the new idea of freedom of speech and corrupt officials become more vulnerable to exploitation. This article was written to keep up-to-date info on the Bill Cosby case and women finally getting their justice. It's disappointing that an icon like Bill Cosby has done things like that. It shows just because you're a celebrity doesn't mean you can run away from your crimes.

  1. It really is sad that an icon like Bill Cosby is facing this sentence but it's refreshing to see someone that did something terrible pay the consequences.

  2. It’s still shocking to see that so many celebrities are being revealed as sexual assaulters but I’m glad that they dont get special treatments in these cases and face the consequences just like anybody else. -Adriana Chavez

  3. I am glad to see that this celebrity is being punished for the horrible crimes he committed. So many stories that are told in the news result in victims not getting justice, so I am glad to see that in this case, they did.
