"Star Wars" T-Shirt causes trouble for Texas 7th grader-Nicholas Watson, 9th

Summary:
A Texas 7th grader was forced to cover up his shirt that showed a Star Wars Storm Trooper with a "Rebel Blaster" (Or a gun type thing). The kid's dad said "Its political correctness run amok." He also believes it is ridiculous that they are making such a big deal about a T-Shirt about one of the year's biggest movies; which happened to be released in theaters just a week after the incident. Southern, the dad, said his son has worn the same shirt to school several previous times without incident, although this time was different. School officials asked the kid to zip up his jacket because it depicted a weapon, which was against school policy. On the contrary the "gun" on the T-Shirt is actually called a "Rebel Blaster" which only exists within the world of Star Wars. Basically it wasn't even a real weapon. Although the schoolbook states that any symbols oriented towards violence could be considered a dress code violation. The boy's dad says that he is a Boy Scout, active in church and doesn't have a violent bone in his body. He is just a kid excited for a movie.

Analysis:
To me this is ridiculous. The fact that this story is making headlines just goes to show that people refuse to let things go, stupid things, until it turns into something that increases the severity of the incident by 1,000. If this boy has worn the shirt several times before this incident, without problems, then why is there a problem now?! Are people just looking for trouble? Are they trying to get a rise out of others? I really don't understand. You see, to me the problem that this nation has is political correctness, people need to get the stick out of their a** and need to recognize the real problems we are having, instead of wasting their time with things like these. Do you really think that because this kid wore a shirt with a fake weapon from Star Wars that he plans to come shoot up the school or has the intentions of trying to hurt people. Like were is the common sense. If we (Americans) keep looking and searching for things we can nit-pick at, where and how are we ever going to fix the real problems this nation has? This incident can relate to U.S. History when the kid from Irving was arrested because he was blamed for making and bringing a clock-bomb to school.

  1. I agree, it's very crazy to make this kid cover up a shirt that has a fictional weapon on it, and what is even more crazy is that he had worn it before. -Mattie Whisler 9th period Flex

  4. I would agree with the school if the shirt depicted violence, but it just sounds like the school is being ridiculous.
