Nicholas Godfrey Period 8: And yet another man trying to help ISIS...

Summary: A man in Maryland has been found to have received money from ISIS to help fund another terrorist attack. He received about $9,000 from ISIS just recently. He had also received about $1,000 from somebody in Egypt last June. When questioned, he claimed it was his mother sending him money, but it has been found that it was a childhood friend who had sent him money from ISIS. He claimed that he was just trying to scam ISIS by taking money and then not carrying out any terrorist attacks. Some of the money has been spent from his laptop for pay-as-you-go phones and personal expenses. He will be in prison for 15 years for attempting to give information as well as 8 years for two other charges.

Analysis: I just can't believe this! I thought that maybe all of this ISIS stuff would just go away soon, but it seems like these occurrences are becoming more and more common. It seems like everyday there is something new about evidence or a new person convicted of trying to help ISIS or another attack. I don't get what seems so pleasant about ISIS that these people are going to perform terrorist attacks. They are promising a better nation for all of them, but how are they going to get to experience that "better nation" if it ever does somehow succeed if they're in prison or dead?!? I think that this proves to us that Donald Trump's plan of banning any Muslims from coming into America will literally do NOTHING. Yes there are cases when these terrorists come in from out of the country but we see an example RIGHT HERE that ISIS can influence absolutely ANYBODY they want. We see here, that social media has been a great thing for communicating with your friends, but has become such a horrible thing too! These terrorists are able to plan terrorist attacks over the internet! I can connect this to when the people of America were trying to revolt against Britain. They had to communicate and plan in secret meetings or by letter. (Now Americans were justified in revolting against Britain, and ISIS is completely bad in trying to attack all these countries.) The point is that social media has just become a vessel that makes terrorism much more accessible.

  1. I agree. ISIS has access to anyone, and usually targets people desperate for money to make joining "worth it" I suppose. The whole thing is crazy to wrap my head around, but most mind-boggling is the amount of people they have reached and recruited.
