Madi Thoele, Period 4: Long Island Killings

Summary: Police are renewing an investigation 5 years after the first body was found in Long Island, New York. In a press conference on Wednesday, the Suffolk County Police Department announced that the FBI will join their investigation of 11 bodies found at Gilgo Beach over the span of 5 years. Police discovered the first couple of female bodies in 2010 in the bushes along an isolated part of beachfront property on Gilgo Beach while searching for Shannan Gilbert, a missing 24 year old New Jerseyan. Gilbert's body was found one year later on nearby Oak Beach, and 10 sets of bodies strewn across two Long Island counties were unearthed by that time. Many of the victims that have been identified had been prostitutes on websites like Craigslist. No arrests have been made yet. Timothy Sini was appointed in November as the new Suffolk County Police Commissioner, and "when the new leadership team came into the department, we began a top to bottom assessment of the department and that included the Gilgo homicide investigation," said Sini. "The best course of action was to take a fresh look at these murders."
Analysis: The author of this article does not seem to be biased. There isn't enough information out to be biased yet. It'll be terrible if the FBI discovers these killings are connected. This event can relate to the Salem Witch Trials. A total of 20 women were executed because they were accused of being witches. These women were killed for something they obviously didn't do, and the 11 women found in Long Island were prostitutes, but they didn't deserve to be killed over this matter. Both sets of women didn't deserve this fate.
