Seattle council allows uber drivers to join a union Jasmine Rodriguez Period 4

This article is about Uber drivers in Washington. They are trying to avoid regulations put on traditional taxi services. In addition, they want to pass a measure that allows the drivers to band together and bargain with companies for certain working conditions. They had to fight for their out-of-the-box rights, as it is quite untraditional to the typical boss/worker relationship.

This is similar to when the Northern states banded together to form the Union during the Civil War. Just like the Uber drivers, they had to stay focused on the larger goals of the group rather than small individual concerns (that would stray the group away from the focus, and example being the opposition to Lincoln's strategy from the Northern Democrats) to lead the team to success. Once the Union became  a strong unified force (following the re-election of Lincoln in 1864), they were able to conquer the Confederacy and become the victors in the Civil War.

  1. This is also in some way similar to the Freedman's bureau as a group of people band together to try to help out.

  2. They recently allowed users to be "licensed" taxi's and sit at airports
