L.A. Schools; Back In Session - Ava Cosentino

Summary:
On Monday, several Los Angeles Unified School District officials received multiple threats that were later found to have originated out of Germany. The Superintendent of schools in this district, Steven Zipperman, called off classes on Tuesday to do full campus searches and to ensure all students were safe and alive. After careful investigating procedures, it has been decided that all district schools will be back in session, starting Wednesday.

Analysis:
Though there are two standpoints on this situation, I do feel that the Superintendent did the right thing by taking all safety procedures, even if it turned out to be a hoax. Now, in this day and age, you cannot play around with treats and brush them off like they are nothing, instead, they need to be heavily investigated and avoided. In the event that it wasn't a hoax and all students were expected to report to school as usual, terrible things could have occurred. I link this to all past terrorist attacks even though it didn't turn out to be real, because there was a possibility that it could have been added to the list of attacks on the U.S., however, everyone is safe, and the school district is sure of it.

  1. Wow this is crazy! It seems like every time I see or hear about current news there are always new threats to the US! I'm glad that they took all the safety precautions that they could and that the students can safely go back to school on Wednesday! -Nicole Chatham 6th period

  2. He did the right thing although why would someone, in Germany of all places, want to threaten schools in California?

  5. I do believe she made a wise decision because it is better to be safe than sorry, especially with everything going on in our world right now.
