Jessica Aguilar Ramos- "Not All Cops"

While it is true that not all cops are responsible for the police brutality that seems so common in our news nowadays, this article shows to us that while there are those that don't actively participate in these horrid acts, their silence is just as damaging as the actual wounds inflicted by the corrupt ones.

Silence is a very powerful weapon if used properly, something proven by, say, that one monologue from The White Rose by Lillian Groag, which is based on actual events and quotes from the final moments of members of the White Rose (a group of students during the second World War who opposed the Nazi regime and paid dearly for their courage). If I recall correctly, Sophie's monologue emphasizes over and over again that the silence of those who want to be left in peace, who don't want to get involved in fear of the consequences for themselves and their families are the most powerful weapons an oppressor can have and let's face it- at this point we can't deny that the police force is turning into an oppressive force against certain groups. If that can't be fixed, who will there be for anyone to turn to if the people who are meant to protect us would sooner shoot us than help with the actual problem?
