Alexis Farrell, 5th Period: Obama: Climate Deal is 'Best Chance We Have to Save the One Planet We've Got'

Yesterday, the international climate pact was passed. It states that all countries have to reduce the emission of gas from greenhouses. The goal is for the global warming to stay under 3.6 degrees Fahrenheit and limit the increase in temperature to 2.7 degrees Fahrenheit. Republicans are claiming that reducing the emission from power plants will make electricity costs go up and reduce the amount of jobs. However, Obama mentions the jobs that became available over the last 7 years because the U.S. being a global climate leader.

It's interesting to me how much the importance of the environment has increased as time has gone by. When the New England, Middle, and Southern colonies were formed, the only thing people paid attention to was whether the soil was fertile or not. Now, international pacts are made to reduce global warming and people are protesting about the significance of climate change.
