The Growth of Terrorism Worldwide; Lauren Bush; 9th

Last week, two bomb attacks took place in Nigerian cities of Yola and Kano. These attacks killed dozens and left more than 120 others wounded.
The two female bombers were 11 and 18. A minivan carrying four other suspected bomber-children had dropped the girls off.  They blew themselves up around 4 p.m. local time.
Officials aren't sure who planned this attack. Their top suspect is Boko Haram, a militant Islamist group. According to the Global Terrorism Index 2015, Boko Haram has become one of the most deadly terrorist groups worldwide, and has pledged allegiance to ISIS.
Terrorism in Nigeria has skyrocketed over the past year. Officials say, "The country witnessed the largest increase in terrorist deaths ever recorded by any country, increasing by over 300% to 7,512 fatalities.”

Other terrorist attacks, like those in Paris last week, have proved that everyone has been put in danger. In the past, our world lacked communication and technology, and terrorism was more isolated. But now, terrorist groups scattering the globe are growing rapidly due to the use of social media.
