Nothing Sells by Matthew Homsher 9th

Summary: Cards Against Humanity, the popular and politically incorrect party game, made $71,000 by selling absolutely nothing for $5 per order on Black Friday. The website stated this as their reason, “On Black Friday everyone is selling something. We’re the only company to offer the superior Black Friday experience of buying nothing.” This was not the first time Cards Against Humanity has pulled a stunt like this. Last year, the company sold bull dung for $6 and 30,000 buyers were surprised when boxes of dung actually arrived in the mail. The company has released a snarky statement as to how they would this year’s profits: “There’s been a lot of speculation about how we would spend the money from Black Friday. And we’re happy to announce that this time, we kept it all.” They’ve already started enjoying the additional revenue, by buying a $112 pair of Ray-Ban Aviators and a Yamazi 18-year-old single-malt whiskey for $365. The company was not entirely honest, as many charities have reported receiving a couple thousand dollars each from the creators of the politically incorrect party game.

Synopsis: It’s nice to find an article about Black Friday that doesn’t involve someone dying or getting the best deal. The creators really have to hand it to themselves. They’re the only company that can get away with selling nothing at all and actually make a profit. It’s like the first Black Friday in 1869 when the government sold gold for extremely low prices, except it’s the opposite; something extremely worthless is being sold for a high price. The money, at least, went to a good place. Those aviator shades were totally worth it!

  1. Oh my gosh I can't get over this. Totally hilarious and I'm loving it. Really though...who else could get away with selling nothing and make a profit? My favorite part though was how they gave to charity but were humble about it. That's the way it should be done. It sets a good example.

  2. This is definitely a great way to give money to a better cause and make fun of how greedy society has gotten at the same time!!
