Summary:
Even through the evil of terror, a anxious and on edge Belgium found some happiness with cat meme to fight against terrorists. On Sunday police detained 16 suspects, possibly connected with the terrorist attacks in Paris. With this the city of Brussels has been on the highest alert for a possible/imminent threat of another Paris style terrorist attack. Because of this authorities requested that social-media responded in silence on their movement against the terrorists while officials could respond the counter-terrorism operation. Because of this the internet responded with an anti-ISIL cat meme parade. Cat tweets flooded the #BrusselsLockdown hashtag with nearly 155,00o mentions Sunday in efforts of trying to cover any intelligence about Police movements. As of now "Freedom wins. And cat memes, too."
Analysis:
In spite of, not only Europe and Brussels as well as the U.S. being on high alerts for another terrorist attack, all this darkness and flat out fear, it brings me so much hope to see that a people of a city and nation can collect their fears and emotions somewhat, and respond to terror with something humorous and all out happy. It is always good when in times of darkness and fear people can find hop in small things like this cat meme trend. This, in a way, reminds me of when a child may be scared of something, like a storm, and parents in return try to distract the child with something like a book or a toy, to some degree help the child be distracted from that fear. In comparison I see that previously stated scenario play out here in Brussels. The citizens of Brussels are like the child, the government and officials are like the parents and the terrorists are like the storms. In a way the government could be trying to distract the people of Brussels by promoting the start of this trend despite the eminent threat and constant fear of the terrorists. This event can be related to past historical events like World War II where people started spreading the famous "We Can Do It" Rosie the Riveter poster. In spite of such a horrible war, the American people remained confident and patriotic through pieces and posters like this.

This is one of the most rational responses I've seen to deal with terrorism these days.
