Desiree Linden Wins Boston Marathon, 1st U.S. Woman Since ’85
Summary-
Desiree Linden, who’s only 34 years old is a two time Olympian, won the Boston Marathon. Marking it the first win for women since 1985, she had to face tough weather conditions, such as icy rain and strong winds. Even in such conditions Linden decided to wait for her American comrade Shalane Flanagan so she could catch up with the pack.
Analysis-
This article was written by Jimmy Golen, who is an associated press writer and has been seen in The Washington Post, Time Magazine, Los Angeles Times, and 881 other publications. This story can be connected to Title IX which states “No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any educational program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.” This example of Desiree Linden shows the breakthrough women have made in society and I’m glad she’s getting the acknowledgment she deserves.
