Mekinna Knight- Flu Szn

This week’s current event is something very sad, but seems to be affecting more and more people. I am discussing a recent event that has tremendously affected the lives of a family with a 3 year old daughter who recently passed of the flu only a few days after showing symptoms. Personally, I have always thought of the flu as just a little sickness that you just get some antibiotics and you are all better. But, unfortunately, the flu is much more deadly than I had ever imagined. The young girl was rushed to the emergency room upon discovery of a 42 degree c fever. After doctors discovered an infection feathered off of her original diagnosis in her liver and brain, she was immediately transferred to Montreal’s Sainte-Justine specialized care center. Doctors there told her parents that the chances of survival were slim, and if she were to survive, she would never walk again. The 3 year old Charlotte was pronounced dead on Thursday afternoon. Although the flu vaccine, doctors have confessed, may not stop the flu, it is the closest most sure vaccine there is at the moment to help prevent it.

This article can be closely connected to the 1918 influenza (flu) outbreak that is still one of the worst outbreaks of a virus in history. Over 500 million people (1/3 of the worlds population) was infected, with about 50 million deaths worldwide.
