This CNN article discusses how House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was able to stay strong against Donald Trump during the shut down. The author describes how she and her fellow Democrats never showed any sign of caving and didn't during the 35 day shut down. Donald Trump simply lost because he couldn't get what he wanted.
I think this article is important because not only is it informative, but is shows that in order to stop the unreasonable and terrifying ideas of Donald Trump, anyone who is going up against him must keep their footing and stay strong against him. All Trump needs to make every one of his loses seem like a win is a little leeway from the other side. Pelosi and the Democrats did not offer this leeway and because of that Trump ended the shut down with nothing more than what he had started with, besides anger from his base. The power of Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats relate to the power of Newt Gingrich and other Republicans that manage to stop all of the environmental work that Bill Clinton was trying to accomplish in the 90's.
