Leslie Vasquez- Government Shutdown Ends

As of January 25th, the government has reopened for another 3 weeks in an effort for Democrats and Republicans to agree on a way to fund the wall Trump is demanding for. If no agreement is met, Trump has claimed that he will call a national emergency and shut down the government again. This shutdown has been declared the longest government shutdown in history. 35 days of uncertainty and workers all over the country not being paid.

I find it unpleasant that Trump will sacrifice the entire workforce's pay just to have the two political parties agree on a wall that might not happen. In my opinion, that isn't effective leadership. As a country, we literally lived through the longest government shutdown so far. What comes after this? I don't understand why Trump is putting so much emphasis on securing the border as extremely as he is when he could be focusing on other important things that could benefit the country better.

  1. Considering how the shutdown has played out so far, I cannot say I have high hopes for the conclusion of the three weeks deadline. Although this reopening is only temporary, I feel that an agreement must be reached, and that it is imperative that there be an alternate to Trump simply shutting down the government again, like a child throwing a temper tantrum when he doesn't get what he wants.

  2. I totally agree with you. Federal workers should not have to work without pay for a petty disagreement. This will just happen again in 3 weeks because neither side is willing to backdown.

  3. I agree he needs to be more focused on things that can actually help the country in need for right now. This shutdown is absolutely ridiculous and makes no sense at all.

  4. I agree, this shut down came out of nowhere and he should focus on bigger issues that the country is facing.~ Stephannie Hernandez

  5. To put peoples lives on the line on a decision about a wall is so unnecessary. There are times when I wish it was 2020 because he is definitely not going to have a 2nd term with this shutdown dropping his acceptance rates.

  6. I'm really hoping it doesn't come to a shutdown again. There have been people writing legislation that would make another shutdown impossible, so hopefully that works out.
