Devyn Lemack- African American Woman Kicked Out of Store

Victoria's Secret has apologized to a woman, Kimberly Houzah, after she posted a widely viewed video saying she was kicked out of the store because she was black. In the video, Kimberly states that her, and another African-American woman that was allegedly accused of shoplifting were asked to leave the store, although these two women weren't even together, the manager just concluded that since they were both black and in the store, they must be together. Victoria's Secret left Kimberly a message stating that what took place at the store should not have happened and it does not represent who they are or what they stand for, as well as that the worker who made them leave has nothing to do with their company anymore.

This was posted on December 9, 2016, showing that this is a recent event and things this racist are still happening in our society today. This is just so sad and unbelievable. Just the fact that a woman was accused of shoplifting without any real proof is already awful, and then making her leave the store as well as another woman who wasn't even with her, just so cruel. Why do people always have to come to conclusions? The worker did not know if she actually shoplifted, and she for sure didn't know that the two woman were together, she just suspected it by the color of their skin. This is definitely a negative article because racism is never something we want to hear about. Prior to reading this article i had never heard of this, but I'm glad I did and that hopefully others will see it. This can relate to any event between officers accusing somebody that is innocent of committing a crime just because the color of their skin.

  1. This is terrible. Why do we have to treat other with this type of respect. It's not okay to do the things that people are doing. - Skyler Tepedino

  2. This is definitely horrible, but I believe that we should do more than just lament the prejudices of those around us. In many cases, they are not held by individuals but enforced by societal expectations. Some of us may understand that these actions are not okay, and those of us who do need to speak out when possible. Change won't happen on it's own, but I believe in our generation.

  3. Kiri Luckey: This is pathetic! We've been trying to get rid of racism for the longest, we even at one point extenguished racism but I guess its starting again, we are repeating history.
