Ciaja Beck {4th period}14 year old boy shot at school for swinging knives.

Summary: A 14 year old male was shot at Hug High School in Reno, Nevada, who was "armed with at least one knife and threatening other students” in an outdoor school courtyard that day.  An officer employed by the Washoe County School District responded to the scene and ordered the teen to drop the knife, Soto said. When the student failed to obey with the verbal commands, the officer fired one shot, “striking the student and … stopping the threat,” Soto said. Officials says the teen name will not be identified because he is a minor.{How does this makes you feel when you look at the image?}

This is devastating to hear because as a police there should have been other "nonlethal" options instead of taking a life away. Some possibilities could include a Taser or pepper spray .  If the police department tries to make an excuse for this how are we suppose to believe anything they inform us. I'm starting to consider police are slacking on their job because there has been too many cases when a policeman has thought of taking a life a way rather than temporarily injuring the person. What's the purpose of all that equipment around your waist when your hand leads you to such  deadly weapon. Also he was a minor this young man could have been going through some issues and didn't know how to express them in the most appropriate  way. Adults fail to realize we have feelings as well and could have the same amount of stress as an adult. We really should make this a more serious topic in politics and in the community or we will be losing a lot of minors. Why do we kill people to show that killing is wrong?

  1. i agree this is very sad to hear that a little boy lost his life. there ought to be reforms in how officers handle cases as such.

  2. this seems extreme for a little boy who was armed with only a knife. obviously the boy was scared and not really sane so he didn't listen to the police officers. they could have handled this without taking a little boy's life.

  3. I like how you said "why do we kill people to show that killing is wrong?" It makes the police force seem rather hypocritical.
