Chloe Dupuy: The Dead Sea is Dying Out

For a long time people have been using the Dead Sea as a get away and a vacation spot, people also use it for it's healing properties like the salt in the water. The sea itself is starting to shrink in size, which is very concerning for some tourists and locals. Scientists believe that something is happening below us 1,388 feet below us at the lowest point on our earth. The Dead Sea is made up of Israel, Jordan and the West Bank and is shrinking at a drastic rate at about 3.3 feet per year. People say that the salt water doesn't taste like salt water anymore and almost tastes polluted or unstable. They also say that if you get the salt water in your eye it fells like acid is burnin g your eyeballs out. Marathon swimmers want to bring awareness to this crisis and change how the water is being conserved

I think that we can relate this problem to any situation in the world with polluting the water. Even lakes in the US are being polluted and people don't recognize what they are doing to the economy when they through things in the water or leave trash on the ground. The fact that people are trying to bring awareness to this problem makes me feel better about breathing the air I breathe and the water I drink. If we make people realize how bad this problem is than I think we could minimize the situation by a long run.

  1. That is really scary. We need to take care of the environment, especially such important landmarks and pieces of history, like the Dead Sea. Hopefully the marathon swimmers do bring awareness and the Dead Sea does not continue to suffer.
