Emily McDougal - Secret Santa Layaway Debt of $46k

Summary: A small town in Pennsylvania experienced what seems to be just short of a Christmas miracle. A person called, choosing to remain anonymous, and stated that they would pay off every single layaway item in a nearby Walmart. Layaway is a process that allows customers to have their items, but gradually pay for them over time. This gives those who may not be able to afford Christmas for their family a chance to not have to buy all the gifts at once, but rather span the spending over a longer period of time. However, this secret santa payed off the $46, 266 that was owed to the Walmart. "Secret Santas" have done similar acts of kindness in the past, but it has never happened in such small town. The town, Everett, has only 1,700 people, who are all incredibly grateful for such a gift this season.

Analysis: This article was written on December 9, 2016 by Ellie Kaufman, to tell the story of an amazing event in a small town in Pennsylvania. This is such an incredible and kind gift to give to people who may be less fortunate in a place that doesn't usually get recognized. The generosity of this giver is something that is not often seen in our country today, and it's important that we remember the good things that are happening in the world amongst the negative ones. This just shows that amid all the all of the violence in our world, there are positive things emerging.

Synthesis: This reminds me of a WestJet flight in 2013 where the airline gave each passenger their "christmas wish" when they arrived. This story, too, touched the lives of all who heard it.
