Caitlin King- cyber bullying continues even after Texas teen committed suicide

Cyber bullying is a serious problem, just ask Raul Vela, the father of Brandy Vela who shot herself in front of her parents two weeks ago. No parent wants to watch their child kill themselves, and after such a tragic event the family just wants to be left alone and mourn. Social media is making that quite hard for them. Shortly after her death, someone started a social media page for her in her memory. It wasn't long before the page was filled with degrading comments such as "You're a coward" and other gems like "You should have done this a long time ago." Vela is now meeting with local legislators and community representatives to try and devise strategies in order to combat the crisis. It's truly sad that it takes this kind of crisis to rouse social change.

This article represents one of the struggles many children, teens, and even adults are forced to face in this modern era. With an anonymous username to hide behind, anyone can say anything, and tragedy is certainly not getting in the way. This article was written on December 14th of 2016, making it current. Hopefully this families message will inspire others to face this cyber crime head on and stand up against it before it's too late.

  1. The people posting those comments are the cowards. They're bullying a person who is dead. They were pathetic enough for hiding away and bullying her into death, yet they keep going. It's as if they're trying to prove their cowardice.
