Isabella Poscente- Woman Accused

Isabella Poscente- Woman Accused

Summary:
Recently, in Peru, a woman was accused of being a witch, and was later on burned alive. This was located in a remote part of the country’s Amazon rainforest in the community of Shiringamazu. Her name was Rosa Villar Jarionca, she was 73, and lived in a village with many other people. Rosa was sentenced to death over claims that she made people sick through witchcraft. The press figured out that Rosa was burned for three straight days so there would be no trace of her. The press also found a record of the decision to burn Rosa, this document contained many signatures and signed by the community leaders. Also, the document said her death was to serve as an example to other communities what this “damage” could do.

Analysis/Synthesis:
The article was posted on September 28, 2016 on The Guardian. The author’s point of view is third person. This article was affected by geography because this incident happened in the Amazon, it took much longer for the news to come out than a big city. This article was written for the general public and it is a negative influence because this is illegal on so many levels. This article relates to the Salem Witch Trials where women were killed for being prosecuted for being witches in the 1600’s.
