Madison Harvey - Minimum Wage Increases

Summary:  Starting January 1st the minimum wage will be increasing in many states.  The current minimum wage is $7.25 per hour and has been the same since 2009.  This is the national minimum wage set by Congress but they haven't done anything since to raise the rate so many states are raising the wage themselves in their own states.  Some increases will only be a nickel or a dime while other states will be $1 and $2 dollars per hours.  There are 21 states in all that are increasing their minimum wage.

Analysis:  This article was written by Jeanne Sahadi with CNN Money to inform the public about the states that are taking action about the minimum wage.  This is a positive thing that these states are doing although it is unfortunate that only 21 states are doing this and that some of the states that are increasing the wage by a nickel or a dime should be ashamed of themselves.  This small of an amount will not help and I can't believe they would even waste their time.  It isn't much better than the states that did nothing.

  1. The only thing that business owners care about is money. They never even think of how much money people need to actually survive. This is a good start, but it's far from where we should be.
