Big Win for Democrats in Deep South--Becca Brandt 4th

Louisiana senator David Vitter has recently become very unpopular due to his prostitute scandal. As a result, Vitter, the Republican, lost the state governor's race to Democrat state representative John Bel Edwards. Vitter then announced he will not be running for re-election for Senate in 2016 and resigned from his seat. Edwards will become the first Democratic governor in the deep south in 12 years. In a victory speech on Saturday night, he thanked the people of Louisiana for choosing hope over scorn and negativity.

I think it is good that Edwards won over Vitter, in a moral sense. Vitter's scandal has not gone unforgotten even after 8 years. Hopefully Edwards will be a good change and influence for the people of Louisiana as well as for the world of politics. This reminds me of the political issues leading up to the Civil War. Sometimes, Democratic or Republican parties took over the North and South. For example, the Democratic party, split between North and South, could not agree on who to nominate as their candidate for presidency, leading to the downfall of the party. To me, the first Democratic governor after over 12 years is a huge turning point.
