Richard Glossip on Death Row by Shelby Linker, 8th period

Richard Glossip, age 53, has been accused of being the mastermind behind the murder of his boss in 1997. His boss, Barry Van Treese, was the owner of the motel that Glossip managed, theories accuse Glossip of convincing a young man, Justin Sneed, to to kill Treese in return for thousands of dollars. When confronted, Sneed said that Glossip had bribed him and Sneed received life in prison while Glossip is facing the death sentence by fatal injection. His death was scheduled for September 30th of this year but on Spetember 16th the court received new evidence that could prove Glossip's innocence, the court has allowed Glossip a 2 week reprieve but what will happen after that?

I'm going to be blunt. The death sentence is way too harsh. It's as simple as that. I'm not saying that I approve of what he did but the death sentence is way too much. It doesn't completely solve the problem by killing the person and in the end you just end up having more dead people, I just find it kind of pointless. I think I would understand if it was a more gruesome attack or if he was a huge threat to the public but even though it's still bad, it was just one person and he didn't even have the guts to do it himself. I don't understand why they can't just give him the life sentence like Sneed, they could possibly be giving an innocent man the death sentence. I also don't understand how they can just trust Sneed's account of what happened, everyone lies these days, why not him? It somewhat reminds me of the Salem witch trials, where they completely believed what the young girls told them  and blindly murdered people just because they assumed they were witches.

They're innocent until proven guilty.
