GREEN BERET BEATS ALLEGED CHILD RAPIST Julia Woltjen (3rd period)

SUMMARY:
Charles Martland, a Green Beret soldier is still in question after being discharged from the army during his post in Afghanistan. He was discharged after news about him beating an Afghan police commander reached the United States. The man in question's name is Charles Martland, even though he is still under a gag order from the pentagon someone was able to pull some strings and he was allowed to make a statement concerning his actions on September 6, 2011. Within the statement Martland explains that the reason for the beating is that the Afghan commander had supposedly raped a young boy for more than two weeks. When the boy's mother had tried to stop the man she was beaten senseless by the man's brother. Captain Daniel Quinn was also in on the attack and is also being punished by the army, not as brutally as Martland but still. Quinn backed up Martland fully in the attack and said "they took the action they took because otherwise nothing would be done by the Army or local authorities."

ANALYSIS:
Even though I believe rape is an abhorrent crime and that a child should never be forced to experience it, I think that the actions these 2 American soldiers committed, were a bit too far. They became vigilantes and literally did what some Afghan terrorists are doing; they sunk down to their level. We went to the middle east (on shaky circumstances) with the goal of fighting the war on terror, what good are we doing if our soldiers are committing crimes of similar magnitude. Again I just want to state that if the boy was actually raped like he said then there is a reason for some looking into but, definitely not of this magnitude.
