Liquid Water Exists on Mars by Caroline North 9th period

NASA has recently made the discovery of the existence of water on the planet Mars, encouraging the idea of possible life there.  Scientists studied light waves with an imager aboard the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter and observed evidence of water.  This obviously does not mean there is any of proof of life on Mars at the moment, but the fact that water is present can justify how something could survive in Mars’s harsh climate. As John Grunsfeld, associate administrator for the Science Mission Directorate at NASA quoted, “The existence of liquid water, even if it is super salty briny water, gives the possibility that if there's life on Mars, that we have a way to describe how it might survive.”

The discovery of water on Mars is incredibly significant in American and more importantly scientific history.  If at some point life is discovered on the planet, it would be one of the biggest scientific discoveries in history.  I think it’s incredible that science and technology have evolved so much that humankind is able to make these types of discoveries and provide incredible knowledge of not just our own planet, but others as well.
