New Clashes at Jerusalem Holy Site - Erin O'Day - Week 5

The violence and unrest continues in Israel, and a recent act of violence occurred on Sunday at the site called the Temple Mount by Jews, and the Noble Sanctuary by Muslims. This site has been fought over for decades, with an agreement reached between Jordan and Israel in 1967 saying that while Jews would be allowed to visit the site, it stilled belongs to Jordan. But now, a group of Jews are pledging to build a third Jewish temple on the site. The site is a frequent place of violence and protests since it is so sacred to both groups, and on Sunday, a group of Palestinians protested and threw stones and firecrackers at Israeli riot police. The fact that a major Jewish holiday is approaching where many Jews will travel to the Temple Mount only made Palestinians more worried that violence would break out.

This whole situation saddens me every time I hear about it. I wish that they could find away to share the land instead of constantly fighting over it. This is reminiscent of the fight in American history, though on a very different scale and circumstance. Europeans truly believed they had a right to the land, but the native Americans, already there, were obviously very agitated by them forcing their way in. While some did push for a way to share the land, most just ignored the fact that the Indians were there first and just fought them and pushed them west.
