Obama Apologizes After Drone Kills American and Italian Held by Al Qaeda- Joelle Gnikpingo 2nd period

(American hostage Warren Weinstein)

An American aid worker and another man being held hostage by the terrorist group, Al Qaeda, were accidentally killed during an American drone strike on Pakistan in January.

They were attempting to wipe out a compound linked to Al Qaeda. The launchers of the attack had no idea that there were hostages being held there.

President Obama, clearly upset that an American was killed by its own government, gave a sincere and personal apology.

Analysis
The War on Terror is still going and the government is taking desperate and fatal measures to end it.

  1. In situations like these how to respond is a big question. This is much like the Iran hostage crisis in 1979.

  2. This is why targeted action is always more effective and easier to control than something like a drone or missile, because you cannot control who will be in the blast radius. Good article though.

  3. Even though the government is technically to blame for the deaths, I think that it was an honest mistake and this will lead to more precaution when using drones.
