Man posts threats to shoot up local malls on Columbine anniversary - Madison Escano

terroristic threat

On Monday morning, Matthew Craven, in his Facebook status updates, cited the Columbine High School shooting and Oklahoma City bombing anniversaries in order to make threats about shooting up local malls. Several of Craven's contacts on Facebook alerted local authorities and Onondaga county sheriff's deputies, DeWitt police, and Syracuse police went on to patrol area malls, while deputies rushed to Craven's home to detain him. Craven was charged with a felony: making a terrorist threat.

I feel like authorities made a good call on this one. Even if Craven hadn't done anything yet, the threats he was making weren't anything to be taken lightly. Although he referenced the Oklahoma City Bombing and the Columbine High School shooting, we also have to remember events like the Boston Marathon Bombing, the movie theater shooting in Colorado, and Sandy Hook. This is another factor when considering the reasoning behind certain aspects of gun control or gun rights in general. We, as a society, should never be too cautious with such weapons.

  1. Gun Control is an issue that i think the US government really needs to take a good look at and consider revising their stance on. Its crazy easy to get guns in America.
