400 Fish Die In Texas State Aquarium - Elvira Gamboa

Last week there was a chemical mix-up at the Texas State Aquarium. Around 400 fish died because the wrong chemical was used in a parasite treatment. The aquarium was supposed to use trichlorfon, but had accidentally used an isomer of hydroquinone resorcinol. The chemical is used in film processing and is common, but toxic. Apparently the containers of chemicals were mislabeled which led to the unfortunate death of many fish.

It's really upsetting that 400 creatures died because of a simple mistake. This shows how sensitive the environment can be and how humans have to be careful with what they do if they want to conserve and take are of the creatures that still exist today.

  1. Hopefully they take a few more precautions the next time they need to introduce a chemical, although thankfully it wasn't a disease outbreak, there are enough of those going around already.
