Google helps anyone get their patent sold. Patent trolls cost innovators $500 billion in lost wealth. The average patent lawsuit results in $122 million in lost wealth. Some patent trolls have been eager to buy inventors' patents in the hope of making money by suing patent infringes. Patent collecting companies will pay the original patent holder a portion of the money that the company gained through litigation. Defending and licensing a patent can be expensive and confusing, but if you sell to a company like Google, it might be appealing to some inventors.
This relates to APUSH because this is a huge advancement in technology. I bet Tesla or Edison had a hard time selling their patents. As for today, it's become easier and because everyone knows Google, people's inventions can circulate more efficiently.
Google is such a massive company, but if you look at Google's competitors you can see there are mostly healthy economic principals.
