Did Constitution Framers Intend Marriage Equality - Lindsey Galvan p.4

When the founding fathers wrote the US Constitution, did they intend to end slavery, end segregation, grant women's right, or to allow gay marriage? This question is being discussed in the Supreme Court. Originalists on the court may hew to conservative view, but most of the justices have given clues that they can see the "writing on wall".

I found this article very interesting. It makes me wonder if the writers of the constitution knew what would become of this country from the laws they created. It has been available to Americans to not be enslaved by one another, segregated, or held back because of who we are and how we decide to liv our lives.

  1. Well, in various periods of time, things are obviously viewed with different perspectives and with different motives in mind. I'm sure that those who created the Constitution and founded our country could not even imagine the technological possibilities that are open to us today, yet they exist and are highly accepted by society. The same goes for the other 'norms' of their day compared to ours. Gay marriage and women's rights and the abolishment of slavery were almost inconceivable because the standards established of the time were so very set in place and almost immobile, partially due to the fact that society and the economy was run off of the basic dependency upon the women's role and slave work to keep things functioning. I think it comes down to the genuine moral of their motives: liberty and equality for all human beings ( at the time only 'white men'). Ultimately, they did a good job picking founding principles.
