Alfred Taubman, pioneer of indoor malls, dies at 91 By Don Melvin and Joe Sutton - Miles Sullivan

Alfred Taubman is the man we have to think for the beautiful things known as indoor malls. Where else would people have the opportunity to browse a varied collection of stores in a weather proof, insulated, Air Conditioned palace of fun? Before Alfred, who came up with the idea when he was 9, shopping was done outside in fear of the elements. Granted, much shopping happens outside and online now, but malls are still a very interesting place to go. Indoor malls helped shape the consumer based suburbia in america with its sense of community and aesthetic flashiness. Rest in Peace Alfred, thanks for being a cool dude.A. Alfred Taubman

  1. The US can look to the creation of malls as a symbol of the growth in the American Economy.
