Boston Marathon -Hadassah Lai

Two years ago, the tragic bombing of the Boston Marathon occurred. It killed three people and injured more than 264 other people. However, the casualties did not only include the participants in the Boston Marathon, they also included firefighters, several policemen, and murdered a MIT policemen. The two terrorists, brothers, were caught. One was pronounced dead at the scene, and the other is now facing thirty charges and a life sentence without the possibility of parole. This year, the Boston Marathon carried on. Hundreds showed up to participate in this event, proving to people that they will move on and that they are only getting stronger. An 8-year old boy was killed in the bombing, and his school teacher ran this year in his memory, he finished with tears streaming down his face. Many survivors also returned, cheering on others and even participating.

Terrorism has been around for decades. 9/11 was when terrorism was completely out in the open, and millions of people were aware of it. The War on Terror declared by George W. Bush was a reaction from the 9/11 bombings. The fact that people still ran in this year's Boston Marathon gives me hope and a tear to my eye. It's strong for those who were actually in the 2013 Marathon to come and support their friends and even participate in it. It really shows the strength and unity of the people of the United States of America. It shows that nothing can tear us down, and that we will only be stronger. It also is a symbol of freedom, freedom from the terror, freedom from the fear.

  1. It is bizarre that the Boston Marathon bombings was two years ago and amazing how the people of Boston have grown stronger since.

  2. This reminds me of the brief period of time after 9-11 when we came together for one goal. Only this time, it's two years after the bombing and we still feel the same sense of unity. It's terrific.

  4. I have a friend who ran the Boston Marathon this year, and she told me about the extensive security measures the Marathon takes to ensure that there isn't another attack.
