Wealthy 1% to own more than half the world combined by Mackenzie McGregor

The wealthiest 1% in the world will soon have just as much wealth as the remaining 99% of us combined. This staggering affirmation comes as the bridge between rich and poor, the middle class, becomes thinner and thinner. This continuous increase in power and wealth is similar to that of major figures during the Gilded Age. Both involve a small percentage of people, mainly men, garnering riches and control to emphasize their power amongst society in the form of philanthropy. Hopefully, the 1% do not become power hungry and find the need to assert their power politically as well.

  1. This is crazy! The gap is continuing to widen. its interesting how things from history can repeat itself as if its an ongoing cycle.

  2. The gap between the upper and middle/lower classes seems to be widening at an alarming rate. Even though America's economy has continued to grow after the recession, the middle class is not reaping the benefits of this growth: the top 1% is.

  3. This gap between upper and middle/lower classes just continues to widen and repeat something we have definitely seen in the past. The growth of the economy is only benefiting the upper class and nothing is being done to fix it.
