California measles outbreak grows to 68 cases - Jack VanGorden 4th per.

As of Friday, the number of measles cases has increased from 59 (two days ago) to 68. Of those 68, 48 of them are linked to the outbreak at Disneyland. Arizona, Utah, Washington, Colorado, Oregon, and Mexico are the states that have been affected thus far with a total of nine cases having been reported. The outbreak was first said to have come about when several employees at Disney were diagnosed. Then, the visitors began to claim that they also contracted the disease while visiting the park in late December. What exactly is measles? According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, "measles is a highly communicable respiratory disease caused by a virus and spread through the air." Symptoms include fever, runny nose, cough, red eyes and sore throat. Dr. Gil Chavez, who works for CDC, is recommending that parents should keep children under 12 months who have never had a vaccination to stay away from the park, and other large places like the airport and the mall. Supposedly, if you do have the vaccination you're safe.

I had heard about several visitors at Disneyland contracting the disease but I never realized that the number had gotten so big and that it had gotten so widespread. I have hope that the CDC is going to be able to contain the outbreak, but I do wonder what at Disneyland was giving the employees and the visitors the disease. Hopefully, the park will be able to get to the bottom of it so that it will be open and safe for everyone shortly.

  1. Wow that is funny Disney Land is suppose to be the happiest place on Earth and people are getting measles. That is crazy that, that many cases have out broken. They need to control that before it goes world wide.
