11 Rescued from Sinking Vessel- Iris Hughey p.5

On Thursday, eleven people were rescued from a 95-foot tall, sinking towing vessel. It was carrying 75,000 gallons of diesel fuel and sank off the coast Oahu, Hawaii. The vessel sank down 2,200 feet of water due to flooding. A distress signal was made by the Coast Guard and two ships within thier vicinity rescued all of the stranded crew members. A plane went up to observe the oil sheen, which was reported to be about three miles long by one hundred yards wide, but Coast Guard spoekesman Darin McCracken states that the fuel "most likely will naturally dissipate."

It saddens me that small accidents such as this can potentially lead to very disasterous outcomes. 75,000 gallons of diesel fuel in the ocean is not a good thing, and this happens quite often. I hope that they are able to find the cause of what made the vessel sink in order to prevent it from happening again.

  1. I dont know if the fuel will really just go away. Tons of pollution will happen due to this for sure.

  2. I think the oil will still have long-lasting effects in the ocean. It's so unfortunate.

  3. Ya it isn't really something that just goes away and that is the attitude of a huge amount of people today. There are problems that are up to us as a human race to take care of and unfortunately it looks like it is going to take a big environmental disaster to prove this, and when that happens... may God have mercy on those the disaster hits
