California has been having many wildfires all around. Some animals from the LA zoo were evacuated because there was a near by brush fire. The Zoo will be closed until the fire department allows it to be opened again. Sprinklers have been turned on to avoid any harm to the animals. So far no animals have been harmed by the smoke from the fire, but the employees are keeping close watch. One firefighter was injured during the evacuation and was sent to the hospital. The freeway near the zoo was also closed because of smoke. Ralph Ellis wrote this article on Friday November 9th.
I think that this is so sad that fires are happening in California. I am worried for the animals at the zoo that were not evacuated- I hope they are okay. It is so scary to me that people have to live in these conditions. I hope everything goes okay and no one else gets injured. Also I'm scared that the sprinkler usage is bad for the environment in California because they are already in a drought. This reminds me of the Great Fires of 1871 in Chicago.

I wrote about the same thing, it’s crazy that this situation is happening, not to mention that it has got to the point that zoos are evacuating animals. I agree with your connection to the past too, the Great Chicago fires were very bad. - Joziah German
ReplyDeleteEmma Burkey: The image of animals having to be evacuated, and worse staying put, is truly alarming. I hope that they will continue to stay safe and that no more firefighters will have to be injured, or die, in order for that to happen.
ReplyDeleteIt's awful that the fires have extended to this point, that such drastic measures need to be taken. One of the things we can see in a positive light in this situation is that we're making an effort to protect animals, especially endangered ones, when many would think it best to leave them behind.
ReplyDeleteIt is insane that there are so many forest fires happening each year. I feel as though we need to study these incidents further so we can learn how to prevent them better.
