The deadliest fire in Californian history has just been deemed contained by officials.
Over the last few weeks 85 people have died and even more are unaccounted for. Thank God; however, that this fire was not as deadly as the Peshtigo fire in 1871.
In Wisconsin in 1871, the Peshtigo fire killed between 1500 and 2500 people. Unlike the California fire, this one was caused by high winds and dry conditions, while the California fire was caused by an unattended camp fire.
Now that I've technically addressed the connection to APUSH, I am going to use the rest of this post to talk about fires.
Y'all know about Smokey the Bear and "Only You Can Prevent Forest Fires." If not, educate yourself.
Please, for all that is good in this world, fully extinguish your campfires, cigarette butts, matches, and other flammable things.
For information on how to properly put out
As always, if you start a fire, put it out. And it gets out of control, CALL 9-11.
Go forth and be #woke.
