how new zealand is moving closer together. - will goodell

new zealand's north and south islands are moving closer together after a series of earthquakes in 2016 that lifted the sea floor, according to the country's geology body. the 7.8 earthquake, which was one of the biggest recorded,  lifted the seabed six and a half feet when it hit near Kaikoura on the south island, which killed many and revealed ancient rocks and marine animals. the islands have continued to drift closer even two years after the earthquakes, scientists say the islands have drifted 14 inches closer from the most northern city to the most southern. the earthquakes dramatically changed the landscape of southern new zealand and is reported to continue to change majorly over time.  many residents along the southern coast are worried about living there anymore, after many died from the 2016 earthquake. I think this is another example of climate change and proves that there can be other outcomes from it besides warming and cooling. new zealand has recorded extreme change in a short amount of time, and i'm positive that they wont be the last country to have this happen to them if our current climate crisis doesn't get better.
