This week a caravan of central American migrants reached the San Ysidro U.S. Mexico Border, and the massive influx has caused the port of entry to be temporarily shut down. When the migrants first arrived, Mexican forces attempted to stop them, but they pushed through and eventually they gave up. However, when they reached the U.S. controlled section of the border, officers blocked them and fired canisters of tear gas to push back the migrants. They then proceeded to temporarily shut down the border, and Trump has even threatened a permanent closure of the San Ysidro entry point.
I feel that the treatment of the migrants is inhumane and wrong, especially on the U.S. border patrol's side for firing tear gas at the migrants. This country was built on immigration, and Trump's threats to shut down the border, build a wall, etc, are not only bad for the migrants, their families and lives, but also against America's tradition and principles. The chaos at the border needs to be regulated, but in a way that helps the migrants reach safety instead of pushing them back and refusing them shelter.

I find it incredibly unsettling to watch what is happening at the border when, as you mentioned, the US was built on immigration yet there are so many people who stand their ground in protesting those who are migrating to the states. The treatment of migrants in such a heinous manner needs to be addressed immediately but until something changes in the white house, I'm afraid it will only get worse.
