A concrete block thrown from a Nashville bridge crashed through a windshield and killed a man on his way to work - Joziah German

On his daily drive to work, Joe Shelton was struck and killed by a chunk of concrete that smashed through his windshield. Joe was on a long, early drive to his an auto plant, on an interstate through downtown Nashville Tuesday morning when someone threw the concrete from the top of a bridge. Police said there are no suspects, but authorities are searching surveillance video for any clues. Neighbors said Shelton had a family including a wife and a son. The state bridge inspectors determined the concrete block was not apart of the bridge, but it was actually a roadway curb. Friends and family are all very disturbed and hurt by what happened to this family man, and they hope that investigators can get some evidence as to what happened.

This article written by Steve Almasy, CNN, was published a day after the incident on Wednesday, November 21st. Just earlier in the day, I saw this story on the news, so I had some prior knowledge about what happened to Shelton. Seeing this on the news I decided to pick it as my blog for the week. This story actually reminds me of another similar incident I read about a long time ago, maybe 11 months ago, about this group of Ohio teens who dropped a sandbag from a highway overpass. The sandbag actually struck a motorcycle traveling below, killing the driver. Both Shelton and this other victim were killed by something purposely thrown from atop a highway. That is very upsetting and unsettling especially since the person who did this is still out there and can still possibly do it again. This story has a negative influence on anyone reading this because it just goes to show how impulsive and sick some people are in the nation.  The idea that people would throw things off highways and kill people seems like it comes out of a fictional game or a movie. This article is important and was written to one, show how fast peoples lives can be taken by even the most unthinkable things, but two that there is an issue that needs to be fixed with people and groups thinking its ok to throw things off highways and kill people.

  1. Thats awful! It just shows how people dont ever think about consequences vs actions.

  2. I have also heard of stories similar to this one and it really saddens me to know that people don't think about the danger they put other people in. I always wonder what that person was thinking at the time like was it on purpose or were they trying to have "fun"? This is a sad situation and I hope these stories can stop other people from doing things like this.
