Summary: On November 7th, 2018, a small brush fire in the mountains of Northern California began to erupt and expand into what is now the deadliest Californian wild fire in a century, which has picked up the name of Camp Fire. According to officials, Camp Fire has seized up to 77 lives, and over 1,000 people have been reported as missing due to Camp Fire relations. Although, theories that the list of unaccounted people may be faulty, considering that one day there were 1,200 people missing and the next day there were only 1,000, have been stirring up.There have also been people that are listed on the unaccounted for list have posted on social media explaining that they were fine, and that they were frustrated that they were still on the list. When asked, officials said that might be the case, and that right now their first priority is trying to save as many people as they can. Another reason the missing number might be so high, added Eric Reinbold, the Chief of Police in Paradise, a town that was completely devastated and wiped from existence by Camp Fire, is that there are a lot of elderly people in Paradise, and they may not have been able to drive or they gave up trying. (this comment was paraphrased) Officials continue to update the unaccounted list as more people turn up from the rubble and more people report that they're fine.
Analysis: Before reading this article, I had heard a lot about Camp Fire, and how it was the biggest wild fire to strike California in over a century, and how an unfathomable number of people had already died because of it. I've heard about various California wildfires my whole life, but I've never experienced one first hand, thank god, so I don't know if having over 1,000 people missing during a wildfire is normal or not, though I'm assuming based on this article it might not be. This is a very sad and panicked situation that hopefully will This article was written by the writing staff at BBC (the names weren't listed), and it was written as a way to gather an opinion regarding whether or not the list of unaccounted people was accurate or not, and BBC was pushing towards it probably not being accurate. This can be related to the 1871 Peshtigo, Wisconsin fire that killed over 1,500 people, and was the deadliest wildfire in American history.
This is very devastating for the families and other victims as well for this ongoing wildfire.
