A new neck scan that only takes 5 minutes van now detect dementia 10 years earlier than any regular test. This test is nothing like anything else in the field of medicine today, and its amazing that we can catch and treat this earlier than ever before. It works but doing a simple ultrasound on the patients neck, to examine the blood vessels that feed into the brain and the heart. The ultrasound screens for the intensity of the blood flow and the irregularity of it. Blood vessels that are more intense and have a more irregular blood flow are 50% more likely to develop dementia in coming years. This test could save the mental state of many people who could develop dementia and the family members of those patients as well.
The historical context is that there have been breakthroughs like this before, but they just kept coming, so, that means that there will be more in the future. The audience is the masses, because everyone should get this test, as dementia can lead to Alzheimers, and Alzheimers is the 7th leading cause of death. The point of view is someone who obviously knows about Alzheimers, and also wants people to get this test as well. The purpose is to inform and advise. This is important because it could save thousands of lives all over the world!
