As more and more wildfires sweep California, the death toll has reached 44 as of today. People--some more fortunate than others--are returning to their homes finding mere destruction, only able to identify a few objects. The Camp Fire, which was considered the deadliest wildfire ever in California, caused 13 of those deaths, left around 90% of homes destroyed that were in its path.
California's worsening drought has led to many wildfires, such as the Camp Fire and the Woolsey Fire, and they are only getting more frequent. This article is directed towards anyone that would be able to help; the article mentions Trump's tweets about the fires and is addressing how he's attempting to help those affected. The author appears to care about the recent incidences and wishes there were something to do about them, and therefore this article is almost like a call to those who can help to show how these fires are causing great destruction. Through reading this article, we can understand the struggles of other areas of our country and understand how it may affect us, even though we don't live in California.
Just as the Californians are forced to evacuate and leave their homes behind, the Irish Potato Famine that occurred during the mid-19th-century forced many Irish people to immigrate to America. These Irish were often mistreated and received very low-paying jobs, similar to how the Californians may not be receiving the help they need and deserve in order to rebuild their communities. I realize that this is not the best connection, but I hope you can see what I'm trying to get at :)
