The family of John Allen Chau, a man from the US who was killed by members of an endangered tribe in India’s Andaman and Nicobar Islands through arrows, has forgiven the tribe. John Allen Chau was accompanied by seven other people who were all arrested. People not from the island are banned from approaching the island in order to protect the people and their way of life there since contact with outsiders could bring diseases they’ve yet encountered which could wipe out their population. Authorities have also said that it may take a few days to recover John’s body since they can’t close to the island and have yet to spot one where the incident was said to take place. John Allen Chau wanted to share the word of Jesus with the tribe, he planned and spoke about it with his organization. His family also stated that he went completely on “his own free will”.
It’s always a sad situation when a life is lost, but with offense to John Allen Chau and his family, he was aware of the consequences he could’ve faced upon visitation of the island, so his unfortunate passing isn’t the tribes fault. I respect the message he was trying to get to them, but I wish he would’ve been safer and smarter about it. His family is making a good decision of forgiving the tribe instead of blaming them for it.
